You Have the Lotto Winning Number? Here's the Dos and Don'ts

dos and donts in lotto winning number ticket

You won the lotto jackpot. It was a dream come true. You don't shout it out to the world, though.

You prayed for that lotto winning number for some time, such that you became superstitious. Your family may be annoyed at such a behavior, but all was forgotten. What's the first thing to do? Don't tell your friends on Facebook. We compile a list, which you should read closely. And don't take it for granted.

DO'S:

  • Write your name on the back of the lotto ticket. And then sign it. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) would know that you're the lucky winner. Those who join the TV and radio promos, which offer cash prizes, would tell you the same thing. But it won't be good enough.
  • Make sure that your lotto ticket is in good condition. No fold. No tearing. No damage of any kind. If you can keep it inside a book, then it would be better. But place the book in a safe place. If you prefer the Bible, then don't think twice about doing it.
  • Don't forget to bring two valid Identification Cards (IDs). If you don't have a passport, then you must have a Government ID. A company ID, or a postal ID, would be the other one.
  • You can go to the PCSO Office the day after the draw. The main PCSO Office is located in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. The early bird catches the worm. (We will explain about this one later.) Handle the book. where you place the lotto ticket inside it, with care. A machine will read it.
  • You'll receive a check. You don't have to worry about carrying a bagful of cash after claiming your prize. But read the next item.
  • Go to your bank afterwards. We advise you to go to the PCSO early, so you can visit your bank afterwards. That should relieve the burden, if not make you worry less. Most banks close at 4:30 PM. If you have a BPI account, then you don't have to think about the time constraint. There's a deposit ATM machine, but ask your local bank representative about the limit. If there's a limit, then you must do the next.
  • Take a taxi. Don't worry about the exorbitant amount.
  • If you live in the province, then plan your claim of the lotto jackpot. The PCSO gives you one year to plan ahead.

DON’TS:

  • Keep the good news to yourself. For now. If you think that your parent(s) or husband/wife/ can keep a secret, then share the good news to your loved one(s). Then again, it would be best to keep it for yourself. For a while. Your safety can be endangered, so try to keep a low profile.
  • If the ticket is lost, or damaged, then you cannot claim the jackpot prize. No need to elaborate on this one.
  • Don't let your winning get into your head. PCSO will give you a short lecture on how to invest your winnings. Don't pass it up, as you would need all the advice that you could get. It's a once-in-a-lifetime happening, so make sure that you won't squander on this golden opportunity.
  • Make sure that you don't put all your winnings in one savings account. The interest rate is one of the reasons. Kindly consult a finance professional and inquire about a saving plan. Spreading your wealth would be the wisest option.
  • Be your same old self. Money can change people, so this could be the most challenging moment of your life. Winning the lotto jackpot is one of those chances that may not happen again, so be serious about investing. (You might want to reconsider depreciating assets.) You'll get your fairy-tale ending if you manage your winnings properly.

How previous winners claimed their lotto jackpot prize

One man won the PCSO lotto jackpot prize of more than 200 million pesos. He went to the PCSO Office (after he learned about his lotto winning number), but he didn’t claim his (jackpot) prize right away. He observed the PCSO premises instead. He also transferred to a new address, and then hiked during the weekend. He thought about his sudden wealth. The man went to PCSO three months later, wearing huge sunglasses and a wig.

On the other hand, a woman from Iloilo City was one of the big winners not long ago. She went to the PCSO Main Office two weeks (after she found out that she was a winner), but she and her husband did their utmost best to keep their personal details confidential.

Last but not the least, this other winner didn’t do anything at all. For months. He didn’t attempt to upgrade his lifestyle, as he paid all his debt first. Got it?
