ofw and foreigner can now enjoy lotto online bet

The Philippines is known for its large number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who work in different parts of the world. These individuals leave their families behind and take on various jobs to provide a better future for their loved ones back home. Aside from their hard work, remittances from OFWs significantly contribute to the country's economy.

But despite their contributions, OFWs face many challenges, including being away from their families for extended periods and being at risk of exploitation and abuse. However, with the recent decision by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), there is now a new opportunity for OFWs to use some of their hard-earned money on something that could potentially change their lives. Lotto online bet? Yes.

Lottery bettors in the Philippines can buy ticks and claim prizes in the comfort of their own homes after the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced the launching of the E-Lotto app.

"It's already available. We will be providing a QR code that you could use which will direct you to our website. You could register there and create an e-wallet that you could use in betting," said PCSO General Manager Mel Robles in a recent interview. "Should you win, you could also use it. For a certain amount, you could insert it in your e-wallet."

E-Lotto is an online lottery game that PCSO offers, where players can bet and win exciting cash prizes. It was launched in October 2020 as part of the agency's efforts to modernize its operations and cater to more players including those living abroad. Before this, only Filipino residents could participate in lotto games.

But why would lotto online bet excite the OFWs? Here are several reasons

Easy access

With the pandemic still ongoing, many OFWs struggle to send remittances back home due to limited access to traditional remittance centers. Betting on E-Lot gives them a more convenient way of using their money without needing physical presence or relying on intermediates.

Furthermore, the rise of online transactions prompted many OFWs, now adept with digital platforms, to participate in E-lotto even more. Anyone can play anytime, anywhere.

Anyone can win big

For most OFWs, leaving their families behind is a sacrifice they make to provide better opportunities for them. But at times, this also means giving up chances to spend quality time and experience significant events together. With E-lotto, OFWs now have a chance to win big and bring their families closer by fulfilling shared dreams and aspirations.

Play with a cause

PCSO is a government agency that allocates part of its earnings to fund various programs and activities, such as medical assistance, educational grants, calamity aid, and more. By participating in the E-lotto, OFWs not only get the opportunity to win but also support these charitable initiatives that benefit many Filipinos.

The decision to allow OFWs to participate in the E-lotto shows the government's recognition of their sacrifices and contributions to the country. It also serves as a reminder that despite being physically distant from their home country, they are still an essential part of its development.

Curb illegal online lottery games

PCSO wants to prioritize security, restricting participation to adults. This process mandates registration and multiple players of identity verification,

"You will be required to use a Filipino SIM card. Even if you're abroad, you can use your Filino SIM," said Robles.  "Foreigners could also play if they have a Philippine government ID like an alien certificate of registration. But what is critical is a Philippine-registered phone."

Robles assured physical lotto outlets that there would be a "positive effect" to them with the launching of E-lotto. The PCSo holds a market share of two percent among Filipinos, totaling over two million individuals (or bettors). The introduction of E-Lotto could inflate the jackpot prize such that it can potentially catalyze an increase in bets across traditional physical outlets.

The heightened accessibility of this new platform is projected to increase revenue to PCSO charity initiatives. Current payment methods include Gcash, but this new initiative could lead to additional e-wallets.

To sum it up, the inclusion of OFWs in the lotto online betting is not just about giving them another platform to bet and win. It also symbolizes their continuous connection and involvement with their home country, despite being thousands of miles away. This move by PCSO opens more opportunities for OFWs to provide for their families while also supporting various charitable initiatives in the Philippines. As long as they remain responsible and mindful of their spending, betting on E-lotto can be a fun and potentially rewarding activity for OFWs all around the world.

E-Lotto is currently put on hold, as the PCSO promises to update the services of this app. Lotto bettors will find out about these new features next month. They can go to the PCSO website for details.

If  you're an OFW looking for a new way to use your hard-earned money, then try your luck with E-lotto! It could be your ticket to a brighter future for you and your loved ones.
